I never thought much of my childhood in the 80s/90s. Today it’s “cool” to look back and have a sense of nostalgia for that time. Dare I say we were the last generation that actually survived without being connected 24/7 to the rest of the world. Ignorance was definitely bliss.

I started my little nostalgia trip when I heard my favorite bands now relegated to the “classic rock” stations. It feels just like yesterday I was dragging my mom around to the Crow’s Nest or Rolling Stone Records to find the latest release from Soundgarden.

Oh wow, they’re coming to the Aragon Brawlroom. I gotta get tickets!

School meant less pressure too. People were still annoying as hell. But at the end of the day, you went your separate ways. I can’t remember how many times to had to hear from a particular classmate on how she was planning to go to Beverly Hills High (like 90210) and marrying Christian Slater.

I know that most shocking of all, you could go home and no one knew what you did that night until the next day. No posts, tweets or snaps. You actually had to explain that you spend the night watching TV or reading a book.

Phones only made calls and they usually were attached to a wire in a house! Internet wasn’t even a thing. Computers were for typing an important school paper or, more likely, playing a game of The Oregon Trail.

I still feel guilt over shooting a computer-generated deer.

Life was much simpler and less hectic than today. Our technology brought us closer to the rest of the world but at the same time, drove us farther apart. Back in the day, you had conversations and communicated face to face
